Gontyna Kry are a band from Poland that plays a very technical form of pagan black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Ignipoten" which will be released by Wolfspell Records on March 20th.
Epic yet symphonic sounding keyboards start off the album along with some clean vocals being added onto the recording a few seconds later and after awhile grim black metal screams start to make their presence known which also take the music into a heavier direction as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion while keyboards are also mixed in the heavier sections of the songs along with the faster sections of the songs bringing in a great amount of blast beats as well as some of the riffing being very heavily influenced by death metal.
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs more of a raw feeling while both the riffs and leads also get very technical at times along with the music also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Gontyna Kry plays a style of pagan black metal that is very diverse with the music mixing the raw, atmospheric, symphonic, avant garde and technical sides of the genre along with a touch of death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Polish and cover Slavic Paganism themes.
In my opinion Gontyna Key are a very great sounding technical pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ogniem Zwyciezamy" "Odrodzenie" "Prazlodlo" and "W Holdzie Ziemi". 8/5 out of 10.
