Hiidenhauta are a band from Finland on this recording drops the symphonic elements and goes for more of a folk influenced form of raw and melodic black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "1695" which will be released on March 18th by Inverse Records.
Melodic riffing starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats along with the vocals also bringing in a great amount of angry black metal screams as well as some female vocals also being added onto most of the tracks and acoustic guitars are also used at times.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while folk instruments are also added into certain sections of the recording along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of keyboards and a few tracks also shows a classical music influence, when tremolo picking also gives the songs a more raw feeling and spoken word parts can also be heard briefly and as the album progresses clean male vocals can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Hiidenhauta moves away from the symphonic elements while still keeping the folk music influences of previous recordings as well as going more of a raw and melodic style of black metal, the production sound s very professional while the lyrics are written in Finnish and are based upon the Great Famine of Finland during 1695 to 1697.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Hiidenhauta and if you are a fan of folk inspired raw and melodic black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hallen Alta" "Musta Leipa" and "Maan Poveen". 8/5 out of 10.
