This is a third review of a recording from Pennsylvania's Efferat which takes their experimental, post rock and black metal style to new levels and the album was self released in 2016 and called "Bainianling Juhui".
Ritualistic ambient soundscapes start off the album along with some oriental style musical instruments being utilized in the background while the music also brings in a great amount of drones as well as some elements of harsh noise and the music also gets very experimental and avant garde at times.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while all of the songs sound different from each other along with the music also mixing in a great amount of distorted guitar sounds along with some 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars being used briefly and one track also introduces spoken word parts onto the recording.
Trumpets and didgeridoo's are also used briefly while the faster sections of the songs bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with a small amount of black metal screams being added in the background as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, guitar solos and leads can also be heard briefly and all of the tracks sound different from each other.
On this recording Efferat keeps the post rock and black metal elements but also takes their musical into more of a ritualistic, experimental and drone direction to create an album that is very dark and disturbing and the production sounds very dark and raw.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Efferat and if you are a fan of experimental, post rock, drone and black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Samjokgu" and "Mothras I Havet av taer". 8/5 out of 10.
