This is a review of a split album between Austria's The Negative Bias and Golden Dawn called "Temple Of Cruel Empathy/Lunar Serpent" which will be released in April by Seance Records and we will start off the review with The Negative Bias a band that plays an astral form of atmospheric black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some atmospheric and ritualistic soundscpaes along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later while their track is 11 minutes in length as well as adding in some occult sounding synths at times which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music.
Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly while the vocals also bring in a great amount of grim black metal screams along with a few death metal growls as well as the riffs bringing in more of a melodic, modern and atmospheric sound as well as the solos and leads also bringing in a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard, clean vocals can also be heard briefly.
The Negative Bias plays a style of black metal that is very modern, original and atmospheric sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover space, darkness, cosmic mysticism, hate, creation and death themes.
In my opinion The Negative Bias are a very great sounding astral and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split.
Next up is Golden Dawn a solo project that plays a melodic, gothic and symphonic form of black metal.
His side of the split starts out with a very heavy and atmospheric sound along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them while the track is 11 minutes in length as well as the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams and the riffs also use a great amount of melody.
Symphonic elements also mix in with the heavier sections of the song while the music also adds in a small amount of spoken word parts and folk instruments along with the music being heavily rooted in the 90's but also very modern at the same time and the guitar leads are also done in a very melodic fashion and some of the synths also bring in elements of goth and electronic music.
On this track Golden Dawn continues his symphonic, gothic and melodic style of black metal from the 90's while also updates his sound for modern days, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occultism, shamanism and lucid dreaming.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Golden Dawn and if you are a fan of melodic and symphonic black metal, you should check out his side of t he split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric or synth/keyboard orientated black metal. 8/5 out of 10.
