Burial Oath are a band from Cleveland, Ohio that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2018 album "Subjugation Of The Bastard Son".
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album along with some grim black metal screams before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats along with some demonic growls also being used at times.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's era of the genre along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody at times as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly and some of the riffing also adds in a touch of thrash and melodic gutiar elads are added onto the closing track.
On this recording Burial Oath takes their style of occult black metal into more of a traditional old school style, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Satanism and Occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Burial oath and if you are a fan of occult black metal, you should check out this album RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Conjuring Unholy Light" "Hail To The Eternal Flame" and "Serpent SLut". 8 out of 10.
