Meslamtaea are a duo from the Netherlands that plays an unorthodox, atmospheric and melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Niets en Niemendal" which will be released in 2019 by Heidens Hart Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them while spoken word parts can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording before adding some blast beats into the faster sections of the music as well as the riffs also using a great amount of melody.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the music also gets very atmospheric at times along with the vocals adding in more of a crazy black metal style as well as the songs also adding in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When clean playing is utilized it gives the songs more of a progressive feeling while at times the music also gets very avant garde sounding along with a couple of the tracks also introducing acoustic guitars and synths onto the recording and when fast tremolo picking is finally utilized it gives the music more of a raw feeling and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Meslamtaea plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and melancholic sounding while also having its avant garde moments, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Dutch and cover post-apocalyptic themes.
In my opinion Meslamtaea are a very great sounding unorthodox black metal band and if you are looking for something very original, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Weer een dang" "Leegte" and "Slapende stad". 8 out of 10.
