Zommm are a duo from Azerbaijan that plays an experimental mixture of post black metal and shoegaze and this is a review of their self released 2018 ep "Reality Is An Illusion".
Dark ambient style synths start off the ep and after awhile drum beats are also added onto the recording while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic shoegaze style. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the second track also introduces clean playing onto the recording.
Elements of post rock can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while high pitched black metal screams can also be heard one the music goes into a heavier direction. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly on a couple of tracks. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also having its experimental moments, ethnic folk instruments can also be heard at times and the ep also closes with an instrumental. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover philosophical themes.
In my opinion Zomm are a very great sounding experimental mixture of post black metal and shoegaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Shining Of The Solar Moon"and "Reality Is An Illusion".8 out of 10.
