Somniate are a band from Czechia that plays a very dissonant form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "We Have Proved Death" which will be released in July by Lavadome Productions.
Apocalyptic sounding synths start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also add in a good amount of dissonant structures. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a lot of raw black metal tremolo picking and blast beats.
Vocals are done in mostly growling style while shouts can also be heard at times along with the riffs also adding in small amounts of melody. The songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
Synths also return on later tracks as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them, spoken words can also be heard briefly along with the vocals also mixing in more of an angry black metal approach at times and the music also has its psychedelic moments. The production sounds very professional while the ylrics cover apocalyptic themes..
In my opinion Somniate are a very great sounding dissonant black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Lamb At False Dawn" and "We have proved Death". 8 out of 10.
