Krygyzstan/Germany's Darkestrah has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an epic shamanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Nomad" which will b e released in March by Osmose Productions.
Nature sounds and acoustic guitars start off the album while throat singing can also be heard briefly which also gives the music more of a shamanistic atmosphere before going into more of a heavier and melodic direction. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the recording also has its atmospheric moments.
Synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with the faster parts of the songs also adding in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some clear vocals also being added on a lot of the tracks. Folk instruments are also utilized at times and one song also adds in a brief use of spoken word parts. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Shamanism and verses from epic Kyrgyz Poetry.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Darkestrah and if you are a fan of epic shamanic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kok-Oy" and "Quest For The Soul". 8 out of 10.
