Atrexial are a band from Spain that has been featured before in this zine and plays an occult mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "The Serpent Abomination" which will be released on march 22nd by non Serviam Records.
Ritualistic bells and synths start off the album before adding into some aggressive sounding guitar solos and leads a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and during the faster sections of the songs a great amount of blast beats can b e heard.
When tremolo picking is added into the fast riffing they also give the album more of a raw feeling while the vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and death metal growls. Melodies are also added into a lot of the guitar leads and riffs and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Spoken word parts can also be heard on a coupler of tracks along with the music also having its atmospheric moments as well as some clean playing and clear ritualistic chants being utilized briefly and acoustic guitars and melodic singing are added on the closing track. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover spirituality, demonology and cosmic themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Atrexial and if you are a fan of occult black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Serpent Abomination" "Omnipresence And Gravitation" and "The Fading light". 8 out of 10.
