Argus Megere are a band from Romania that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a folk influenced form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Cerberea Appusuli" which was released by Loud Rage Music.
Clean playing starts off the album along with some folk instruments a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling. Vocals are done more in an angry growling style mixed in with some clear singing and grim s creams while the keyboards also takes the recording into more of an atmospheric direction when they are utilized.
Throughout the album you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing. Influences of post rock can also be heard at times as well as the recording also having its progressive moments, whispered vocals are also used briefly and they also bring in an instrumental The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Romanian and cover Nihilism and Misanthropy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Argus Megere and if you are a fan of folk influenced atmospheric black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Volvura" and "Soma". 8 out of 10.
