Texas's Sardonic Witchery have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an old school, occult and satanic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2026 compilation album "Under The Sign Of The Trident" which will be released in April and consists of re-recorded material from their four key releases of the past 10 years.
A very ritualistic sounding intro starts off the compilation before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's era of the genre.
Throughout the compilation you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while shouts are also utilized at times. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing and some of the music shows a first wave influence. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also stick to more of an old school extreme metal style.
On this compilation Sardonic Witchery takes their older material and updates their old school black metal style for the modern era as well as keeping everything aggressive. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Witchcraft, Occultism and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion this is a very great sounding collection from Sardonic Witchery and if you are a fan of old school, occult and satanic black metal, you should check out this compilation.
