Dunnock have returned with a new recording which shows them continuing their depressive, atmospheric and atonal approach to black metal and this is a review of their 2014 ep "The Rainy Season" which was released by Sylvan Screams Analog.
A very distorted atmospheric and depressive black metal sound starts off the ep along with some high pitched screams and after a couple of minutes spoken words can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the band adding in more fast and raw elements which also show them incorporating blast beats.
There are a good amount of experimental traces being presented throughout the recording which also bring in harsh noises and drones on some of the alter tracks and at times they guitar riffing mix in some melodies with their raw black metal sound and the violins and keyboards makes the music sound more atmospheric and the music on this ep shows more of a depressive approach than the previous recordings with most of the music being in a slow direction while it also has its fast moments at times.
Dunnock creates some of their most raw and depressive black metal on this recording while still being very experimental at the same time and they manage to do something new with each recording, the production has a very dark and raw sound while the song lyrics are based on 2 different days and have a very depressive approach to them.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dunnock and if you are a fan of atmospheric, raw and depressive black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" IV" and VI". 8 out of 10.
