Hexis/Tando Ashanti/Halo Of Flies/2017 CD Review

  Hexis  are  a  band  from  Denmark  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal,  sludge,  crust  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Tando  Ashanti"  which  will  be  released  on  April  14th  by Halo  Of  Flies.

  Distorted  amp  sounds  along  with  some  heavy  riffs  start  off  the  album  and  after  awhile  grim  whispers  are  added  onto  the  recording  before  evolving  into  more  of  a  screaming  style  that  is  in  between  black  metal,  sludge  and  hardcore  while  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  depressive  screams.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  slow  riffs  add  in  touches  of  doom  metal  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  the  songs  also  mix  in  a  great  amount  of  crust  and  post  black  metal  elements  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  drones  can  be  heard.

  Hexis  creates  another  recording t hat  remains  true  to  the  post/depressive  black  metal,  sludge,  crust  and  hardcore  mixture  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nihilism,  anti  christianity  and  abstract  thoughts  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Hexis  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  post  black  metal,  sludge,  crust  and  hardcore,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Tando"  "Ritualis"  "Resurrection"  and  "Presagium".  8  out  of  10.
