Panpahge are a solo project from Germany that has been featured before in this zine and plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of his 2015 album "Storm" which will be re-issued in May by Nordvis Produktion.
Atmospheric sounds and acoustic guitars start off the album which also goes back to the pagan era of the Germanic tribes along with folk instruments also being utilized at times and they also mix in with the more heavy and melodic side of the songs briefly while t he vocals are mostly grim black metal screams,
When tremolo picking is utilized it gives the songs a more raw black metal feeling while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Spoken word parts and melodic chants and singing are also used briefly on a couple of the tracks and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and one of the tracks is very long and epic in length along with some songs being instrumentals while a brief use of female vocals are also added on a later song.
On this recording Panphage displayed a more raw style of pagan/black metal, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover Anti Cosmic and Dark Germanic Heathenism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Panphage and if you are a fan of pagan black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Storm" and "Forfader". 8 out of 10.
