Funeral Baptism are a band from Romania that plays a very raw and traditional form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2017 ep "Gate".
A very dark sounding intro starts off the ep along with some soundscapes before going into a very fast and raw musical direction that utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and the music is very heavily rooted in the 90's.
Melodies can be heard in some of the riffs along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some of the songs also add in a small amount of modern influences and melodic guitar leads are used briefly while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
Funeral Baptism plays a style of black metal that is very raw, old school and traditional sounding while also mixing in a modern touch, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Funeral Baptism are a very great sounding traditional black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Pact" and "Legacy". 8 out of 10.
