Blackest are a band from Birmingham, Alabama that plays a very raw and modern form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Dawning Of The Black Blood" which was released by Blood And Brutality Records.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction while the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and after awhile the music foes into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with a few death metal growls and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and clean guitars are also utilized at times and some of the slow riffing also adds in a touch of doom meta and one of the tracks is very long and epic in length and also brings in the atmosphere of a classic horror movie as well as being all instrumental.
Blackest plays a style of black metal that is very modern while being more on the raw side and also mixing in a touch of black metal, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Blackest are a very great sounding black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mortal Curse' and "The Rise Of Ashes'. 8 out of 10.
