Romania's Bloodway have returned with a new recording that is more in a progressive and avant garde style of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 "A Fragile Riddle Crypting Clues" which will be released in November by I, Voidhanger Records.
Avant garde elements and clean guitars start off the album while spoken word parts are also utilized briefly before going into more of a heavier direction along with the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections of the songs a great amount of tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the vocals are mostly angry black metal screams along with some clean singing and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording.
When guitar solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody and progressive elements and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length, as the album progresses clean playing can be heard on some of the tracks and psychedelic influences can also be heard at times and spoken word parts are added onto the closing track.
Bloodway creates another recording that remains true to the progressive and avant garde style of black metal from previous releases, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album and cover disenchantment and melancholy with a philosophical touch.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Bloodway and if you are a fan of progressive and avant garde black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Startling Grotesque" "Prison Paradise" and "A Fragile Riddle Crypting Clues". 8 out of 10.
