Sombre Croisade are a duo from France that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Balancier Des Ames" which will be released on September 29th by Pest Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording along with the vocals also being very grim and high pitched black metal screams and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and clean playing is also at times.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music a more raw feeling along with the music being very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave tradition while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion.
Clean singing can also be heard briefly while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length and at times the solos and leads also bring in more of a modern and atmospheric style.
Sombre Croisade plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional in the 90's second wave tradition, the production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics are written in French and cover Esoteric and Anti Religion themes.
In my opinion Sombre Croisade are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Balancier Des Ames" and "Voeux Illusoires". 8 out of 10.
