Moriid are a band from Denmark that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Så kom mørket og tog mig på ordet En sort sky af minder I afgørende stunder Frosset fast i mit indre Jeg håber det forsvinder med lyset At dø eller blive fri" which will be released in February by Indisciplinarian.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album along with some drum beats a few seconds alter while also mixing in with the heavier sections of the music at times. When vocals are brought into the music they are done in a very high pitched yet depressive style and the solos and leads bring in more of a distorted approach.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the tremolo picking and blast beats during the faster sections of the songs gives the music more of a raw feeling along with some 90's influences but modern at the same time. The songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Clean playing, guitar slides and acoustic guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while one track is an instrumental along with some of the guitar leads also adding in a melodic touch of post black metal. At times the music also shows a cascadian influenced approach to the way the songs are structured as well as the music getting more diverse as the album progresses, rain and thunder sounds can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Danish and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Moriid are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "En sort sky af minder" and "At do eller blive fri". 8 out of 10.
