Narrenwind are a band from Poland that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Mojej Bolednej snie Dobra Smierc" which was released by Pagan Records.
Fire sounds start off the album along with some nature orientated field recordings before adding in some melodic guitar leads onto the recording. When whispers are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling before evolving into high pitched black metal screams when t he recording goes into a heavier direction.
A decent amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing along with the vocals also using a grim pagan style shout at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them as well as a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Elements of 90's era pagan black metal can also be heard in the riffing at times along with the music also capturing the atmospheric sound of that era. As the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Polish and cover necromancy, diablerie, solitude, insanity, crime and sin themes.
In my opinion Narrenwind are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band that captured both the modern and old school era of the Polish style and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wydluzam cien boga ciemnosci" "Wiatr glupcow" and "Nic". 8 out of 10.
