Thrown Away is a solo project from Australia that plays a mixture of atmospheric post black metal and shoegaze and this is a review of his self released 2020 album "Turn 180 Degrees".
Ocean sounds and atmospheric soundscapes start off the album along with voices in the background briefly before going into more of a heavier and melodic post metal direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams along with the music also adding in a good amount of shoegaze elements.
Clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the recording while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. The songs also mix the heavier and atmospheric parts together along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length as well as some spoken words also being used briefly, most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo style and the album also closes with an instrumental.
Thrown Away plays a musical style that takes atmospheric depressive black metal and mixes it with post rock and shoegaze to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, nature and depression themes.
In my opinion Thrown Away is a very great sounding mixture of atmospheric depressive black metal, post rock and shoegaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Weather The Storm" and "Long Way". 8 out of 10.
