Sweden's Vanhelga have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Enfin Morte" which was released by Cult of Parthenope.
Synths and spoken word parts start off the ep along with some clean playing a few seconds later which also brings in elements of post rock. Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly while clear vocals can also be heard in some parts of the recording and melodies are also added into the heavier sections of the songs.
Depressive yet high pitched black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of blast beats. Growls can also be heard briefly along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, female vocals can also be heard briefly and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
On this recording Vanhelga goes for more of a depressive style of post black metal. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover the darker side of humanity and the last track is written in English.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vanhelga and if you are a fan of depressive post black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sjuklig Samhörighet" and "Finally Dead". 8 out of 10.
