1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1.Svora is our black metal project, which was born in October 2021. Initially, we thought just to make an EP as a tribute to the Finnish metal scene, but every month we began to realize that Svora is something more. We can create many more interesting songs, which is what we are doing now
2.Recently you have released your first full length, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
2. As mentioned earlier, we are very close to the Finnish black metal style. We really like to mix raw sound, blast beats, tremolo, punk tunes and all that. This gives a great groove. To be honest, based on the reviews, the guitar parts are what people listen to us for (Private D thinks that way haha)
In fact, we make music the way our soul tells us, so we have quite a variety of bass parts and interesting moments in drums for this genre
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
3. When we wrote the album, we didn't have lyrics yet. Instrumentals without lyrics and vocals were ready in November 2021. Later, we thought: we respect the Finnish scene, we are from Russia, so let's make an album about the Soviet-Finnish war. It was then that Private L joined us and wrote great lyrics, they sound very strong in Russian, it seemed that Private L was there and felt everything that the soldiers felt. Later, a full concept album was formed about the war, about local themes of that time, about the Emma machine gun, and so on.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Svora'?
4. SVORA in translation into Russian is a greyhound dog, led on one belt, or just a few dogs gathered together (pack).
At first, we just liked this word, and later it began to take on a new meaning. After all, we in Russia really live like dogs. We are kind and pleasant creatures, always ready to help each other in the group and our loved ones. But to stay on that vibe, we need emotional release, we need to bark and show our fangs, so we gathered in SVORA. We are the outsiders of the new generation
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
5. The album cover for our debut album looks like almost all raw black metal covers. Gothic fonts, the band's logo, and from the colors only black, white and its shades.
Naturally, we added elements of barbed wire, took photos from the archives of the time when the Soviet-Finnish war took place, put everything together and our cover turned out. Private D wanted to make a fresher cover using new design solutions to appeal to a larger audience, but after discussions we decided to leave it as is.
6.The band members live in both Finland and Russia, what impact does this have on the musical style that you play?
6. We will not say who now lives in Finland and who lives in Russia. I think that soon our group will become completely international, because in Russia it is now difficult to make music in a serious way. We want it, but it may become impossible for us due to censorship and other things.
7.If the opportunity ever came around, would the band be open to doing live shows or tours?
7. Yes, of course! Now we are working on new material, and in the future we will assemble a full-fledged team for performances. We really want to start performing with our songs, because they are made for concerts haha
8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
8. We didn't look for labels and released our album without any promo. In Russia, we have not found our listener, but outside of it, people really like our music.
We are currently negotiating with three underground labels, maybe we will release our music on all three labels, but I can’t tell you the details yet
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
9. We already had musical projects, but in my opinion SVORA is the most successful of them. Abroad, our music is listened to, donations are made and offered to be published on their label. They also do interviews haha, shout out OccultBlackMetalZine.
I think in the future we will reach even more people with our music. To start without any advertising, we started our musical journey well.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
10. Our development depends on many factors. We will definitely release a new album in 2023. We will try to put together a great team for live performances. And we will experiment with our music. You will hear it on the new album!
Otherwise, we should hope for good luck and the end of the war that Russia started.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
11. We listen to a lot of music. Ambient, rock, black metal, Japanese funk, even now popular rage rap and so on.
SVORA absorbed all the best from Finnish black metal (Satanic Warmaster/Horna), we also added some Russian melodies of sadness and devastation (We listen to a lot of Russian atmospheric black metal, and for the album Private D also listens to old Soviet songs) . Despite so many references, SVORA has still become a group with its own individual atmosphere, which we will maintain throughout the journey.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
12. I want to apologize in advance, as we answered questions with the help of an interpreter. Our English is still far from perfect haha. But I hope that you were able to understand everything that we wanted to say.
And in conclusion, I will say the following:
Live and be happy, be sad, angry and cry. Feel all the emotions and don't lose your humanity. Be open to this world and then it will open to you.
Fuck the war, let it remain only in art, in music. Love you all
