Wintourn are a solo project from the United Kingdom that plays a very raw and depressive form of ambient black metal and this is a review of his self released 2022 ep "Ceaseless Downpour Of Infernal Shadow".
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. the music also captures a vey lo-fi atmosphere while the vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams as well as most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style when they are utilized. Clear chants can also be heard briefly along with the synths and soundscapes also bringing in elements of dark ambient when they are introduced onto the recording, melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing and the ep closes with an instrumental.
Wintourn plays a musical style that takes a very raw and depressive form of black metal and mixes it with dark ambient to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Darkness and Depression themes.
In my opinion Wintourn are a very great sounding raw and depressive ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "To Recoil In The Presence Of Light". 8 out of 10.
