Dead Slow Hand Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

We are Dead Slow Hand and we play black metal.

2.In June you have a new ep coming out, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

The NU^L EP is darker and more atmospheric, but I’m still staying true to my vision of black metal. I simply tried to push the sound further and improve the production. This time, mixing and mastering was handled by Harpak Karnik. On previous releases, I did everything myself, which was pretty stressful. The biggest difference now is that O gave this EP its true form.

3.A lot of your lyrics cover Luciferian and Occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

We serve the darkness – what else would we write about? Love and peace? I’ll leave that to the rainbow worshippers.

As for the lyrics, I left that to O. I gave him the concept, and he wrote them like he could see straight into my soul.

When I compose, I try to let the music tell a story on its own – O gave that story words.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Dead Slow Hand'?

In the past, I shattered my right wrist – there are still screws and metal in it to this day. Its movement is limited, but it became an irreplaceable part of my playing.

When I was coming up with the name, I wanted it to be a part of me – and that’s how Dead Slow Hand was born.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The artwork is a masterpiece by an artist I discovered by accident. I really like his style and his work.

The cover visualizes the concept behind the songs on the EP.

It depicts the apparition of a four-legged rotting goat, resembling Baphomet, summoned by its worshippers in a bloody ritual deep within the NU^L forest.

6.Originally the band started out as a solo project but has recently evolved into a duo, what was the decision behind adding in an additional member?

The instrumental demos for the EP were ready, but I had no vocals. I had injured my vocal cords, and I was left with two options: either give up on the release, or accept that I had to find a new voice – which meant becoming a duo.

A burning cross brought forth a voice of doom from the depths of the underworld. That voice is O.

7.The band members live in Czechia and the United Kingdom, what impact does the long distance between the band members have on the music that you create?

We share one vision, and distance won’t stop us.

This is the modern world, after all.

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I haven’t approached any labels yet – I release everything myself. There have been some “offers,” but they lacked that proper underground stench.

We’ll see what happens after NU^L is released.

9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

I think Dark Underground wasn’t really understood by people.

I believe the ritualistic NU^L EP will change that.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

A full-length album will come when the darkness deems it time.

For now, it only speaks to us in the form of new riffs.

Musically, we’ll stay true to our black metal vision.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I’ve been influenced by many bands and styles.

But when it comes to Dead Slow Hand, it’s mostly the Nordic black metal classics from the ’90s: Mayhem, Burzum, Dark Funeral, Immortal, now also Abbath, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone, and so on.

I also draw inspiration from stoner/doom bands.

I’m not sure if this fits here, but lately I’ve been listening to a lot of audiobooks – they bring a lot of inspiration too. Musically, I’m really into raw black metal bands right now.

12.Before we wrap up this itnerview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for the opportunity to speak.

Stay true to yourselves – and may Morningstar guide you through the shadows.

I believe that on June 13th, 2025, the flames will rise and NU^L will echo in their glow.
