Draugaskógur are a band from Serbia that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Fullmoon Hypnotic Ritual" which was released by Inferna Profundus Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When synths are utilized they also give the music more of atmospheric and ambient touch along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and the recording also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the album also adding in a lot of old school influences, some of the riffing also adds in a small amount of dark sounding melodies and the closing track is an instrumental.
Draugaskógur plays a style of black metal that is very raw, lo-fi and atmospheric sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover night rituals and necromancy themes.
In my opinion Draugaskógur are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Astral Visions" and "Moonghost". 8 out of 10.
