Ethereal Woods are a band from England that plays a very nature orientated form of atmospheric pagan/black metal and this is a review of their 2004 album "Thickthorn" which was released by Supernal Music.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being thrown into the music at times, while the synths bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw and primitive sounding which are mostly in the mid paced vein with some dark sounding melodies being utilized at times and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with a brief use of shouting type vocals being utilized on one song, while the lyrics cover Darkness, Nature, Paganism and English Nationalism, as for the production it has a very dark, raw, and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Ethereal Woods are a very great sounding raw and primitive atmospheric pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Landscapes From The Past" "The Walk Into Darkness" and "Reign Of Terror". RECOMMENDED BUY.
