Goat Funeral are a band from Germany that plays a very raw form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2016 compilation album "Luzifer Spricht...10 Years In The Name Of The Goat' which will be released in December by Massacre Records.
Spoken word parts start off the compilation before going into more of a dark and heavier direction along with some high pitched black metal screams and synths can also be heard in the background at times and the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up a good amount of blast beats can be heard.
During the faster sections of the songs the riffs bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw black metal style and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic fashion.
All of the musical instruments on the recording h ave a very powerful sound to them and some of the tracks also bring in a decent amount of 90's second wave influences and melodic chanting and singing can also be heard at times and spoken word parts also return on some of the tracks and as the compilation progresses a brief use of clean guitars can be heard on some tracks.
Goat Funeral plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional while also bringing in a great amount of melody and atmospheric synths on some tracks which also makes the music stand out a bit more and the songs all come from their only full length and 2 splits, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover Satanism, Luciferian, Occultism, Darkness and Goats themes.
In my opinion Goat Funeral are a very great sounding raw and melodic occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bastian Lucifer" "Church Of Genosuicide" "Goat Genocide" and "Scars Of A Nation". 8 out of 10.
