Spirit Of The Forest are a band from Montreal, Quebec Canada that plays a very atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "A Void Into The Fields Of Silence/La Nature Oubilee" which was released by Scum Productions.
Water sounds along with some tragic sounding keyboards and classical guitars start off the album and they also give the recording more of a pagan atmosphere and after the intro the music goes into more of a fast and raw black metal direction that also utilizes a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and the songs bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a decent amount of melodic guitar leads and folk instruments can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
They also mix acoustic guitars in with some of the heavier parts at times and spoken word parts can be heard in certain sections of the recording and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and on some of the later tracks keyboards make a return and the riffs also start adding in more melodies and some songs also bring in a small amount of deep growls and as the album progresses clean singi9ng can also be heard in some parts of the recording.
Spirit Of The Forest plays a style of pagan/black metal that is very raw and melodic while also having its atmospheric moments, t he production sounds very raw yet heavy at the same time while the lyrics are written in a mixture of French and English and cover Paganism, Darkness, War and Nature themes.
In my opinion Spirit Of The Forest are a very great sounding atmospheric black/pagan metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crossroads" "The Dark Era" and "Illumination". 8 out of 10.
