Dakota Westbrook is a solo project from Georgia that plays a depressive and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 2017 album "Worthless" which was released by The Apollyon Group.
A very dark and heavy sound along with some melodic guitar leads start off the album while the riffing also brings in a great amount of depressive sounding melodies and the vocals are mostly angry and high pitched black metal screams which also get very deep at times as well as all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful.
At times the music gets very atmospheric while some of the riffing also mixes in elements of thrash along with most of the tracks also sounding very different from each other as well as one of the tracks being an instrumental, death metal growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and melodic vocals are also used briefly and most of the music sticks to a mid tempo direction and on a couple of tracks blast beats and fast riffs can also be heard briefly.
Dakota Westbrook plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in atmospheric and depressive black metal while being different from most bands of the genre, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover nature and depression themes.
In my opinion Dakota Westbrook are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "No Blood Loss" "This World Is Cruel" and "Worthless". 8 out of 10.
