Ba'al are a band from the United Kingdom that h as been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of post black and sludge metal and this is a review of their 2024 ep "Soft Eyes" which will b e released in May by Ripcord Records.
Noises and field recordings start off the ep before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Elements of sludge and doom metal are also added in the slower sections of the songs along with the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while clean playing can also be heard at times. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the clear vocals also adding in touches of gothic metal, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic post metal style.
Growls can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the faster sections of t he songs also adding in tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling as well as the synths also adding in touches of ambient when they are introduced into the music. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover shadows, revelations and doors of perception.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ba'aal and if you are a fan of post black and sludge emtal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Yearn To Burn Bright". 8 out of 10.
