Ulva are a band from Greece that plays a violin driven form of black metal and this is a review of their 2024 album "Wounds : reclaimed" which was released as a joint effort between Fiadh Productions, Vita Detestabilis, Nothing To Harvest and Pyrrhic Defeat.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are done in an angry style of black metal which also mixes in with some high pitched screams and hardcore style shouts.
Violins are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the drum beats also being all programmed and all of the music sticks to a heavier direction.
Ulva plays a style of black metal t hat is very raw and aggressive as well as mixing in violins and touches of hardcore to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover real life themes.
In my opinion Ulva are a very great sounding violin driven black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Greatest Disappointment" and "The Eight Of The World". 8 out of 10.
