Polemicist are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays a very raw and melodic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self titled 2025 ep which was released by Elf Eggs.
A classical music orientated intro starts off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams mixed in with a few death metal growls.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the classic Swedish tradition while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they ae utilized.
Polemicist plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic in the classic Swedish tradition as well as mixing in elements of death metal to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the writings of Fredrich Nietzsche, Immanuel Kant and Herman Hesse.
In my opinion Polemicist are a very great sounding raw and melodic mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Ambition And The Wrath" and "Noumenon". 8 out of 10.
