Embrace Of Thorns are a band from Greece that plays a mixture of war, black and death metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Darkness Impenetrable" which will be released on April 30th by Nuclear War Now! Productions.
Evil sound effects and ritualistic spoken word parts start off the album and a few seconds later heavy and melodic riffs make their presence known on the recording along with some solos and leads being added in at times and the music also brings in an early 90's death/doom metal vibe at times along with some grim vocals.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a decent amount of blast beats and bestial growls and the faster sections bring in a very old school war metal sound while also being very heavily influenced by death metal and when solos and leads are utilized they are very chaotic in a black/death metal direction while on some of the tracks they also have their melodic moments and the album can be very diverse at times while also remaining brutal and they also bring in avant garde occult sounds at times.
Embrace Of Thorns plays a style that goes back to the 90's era of black, death and war metal and takes these genres and mixes them together with more of an occult atmosphere and melody which makes them stand out a bit more, the production sounds very dark, heavy and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, occultism and left hand path themes.
In my opinion Embrace Of Thorns are a very great sounding mixture of war, black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Hermetic Quest For Thy Blackest Temple" "Erect Bloodstained Totems" "Charon's Ride Over Wasteland" and "Aiwaz Arisen". 8 out of 10.
