Hybrid Nightmares are a band from Australia that has been featured before in this zine and plays a progressive mixture of black and extreme metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "The Second Age" which will be release d on April 20th.
Ambient sounds start off the ep along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later and after awhile melodic guitar leads start becoming a huge part of the recording and after the intro the music starts getting more heavier along with some melodies and black metal screams and the music also adds in a variety of many different extreme metal influences.
Blast beats can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can hear a lot of prog metal elements in all of the songs and the acoustic guitars also make their return on a later track as well as adding in clean singing vocals while the heavier tracks also display a melodic death metal influence at times.
Hybrid Nightmares creates another recording that is still very heavily rooted in black metal but also adds in elements of other extreme and progressive metal styles to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover Stories, Absurdism, War and Battles.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Hybrid Nightmares and if you are a fan of progressive black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In The Labyrinth" and "And Reach The Stars". 8 out of 10.
