Hellacaust are a band from Nova Scotia, Canada that plays a mixture of black, war metal, thrash and crust and this is a review of their 2015 album "What Is Not" which will be released in May by PRC Music.
A very distorted reverb sound starts off the album which leads up to a heavier musical direction and after a minute grim black metal screams are added into the music along with some war metal style growls and the music also brings in the raw energy of thrash and crust punk and the solos and leads that are utilized are very chaotic sounding.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a decent amount of blast beats which can also be very brutal at times and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of melody and all of the tracks also bring in a great amount of anger and hatred and all of the tracks stick to a very heavy musical direction and they close the album with a cover of Sodom's "Agent Orange"..
Hellacaust plays a musical style that takes the rawest and most extreme forms of war, black metal, thrash and crust to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover dark, violent and evil themes.
In my opinion Hellacaust are a very great sounding mixture of war, black metal, thrash and crust and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Remove the Poison" "Lament Configuration" "Belly Of The Beast" and "Agent orange". 8 out of 10.
