Ekstasis are a band from Germany that plays a progressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2015 album "Wirklichkeitsraster".
Clean playing starts off the album along with some heavy guitars and grim black metal screams and after a while the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction along with a great amount of blast beats and they also mix in a lot of melody in both the riffs and guitar leads and all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording there is a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the songs also mix the clean and heavy parts together giving the music a progressive feeling and spoken word parts can be heard in certain sections of the recording and acoustic guitars can also be heard at times and one track also brings in elements of post rock and a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length and a later song brings in a few seconds of melodic singing and keyboards.
Ekstasis plays a style of black metal that is very melodic and progressive while also adding in a heavy dose of post and modern atmospheric black metal, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Ekstasis are a very great sounding progressive black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kontrolle" and "Gadenkenort". 8 out of 10.
