Vanum are a duo with the members being from New York and New Mexico and plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "Burning Arrow" which will be released in August by Eisenwald.
Nature sounds along with some synths start off the ep before adding in heavy distortion and drums a few seconds alter which also leads up to some melodic post metal style guitar leads being added onto the recording and after awhile grim black metal screams start to make their presence known.
All 3 of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the riffs also use a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a more raw black metal feeling and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording and clean playing is added on the closing track.
Vanum plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric, raw, melodic and modern sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes
In my opinion Vanum are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Watcher In The Eastern Sky". 8 out of 10.
