Postcards From Arkham are a band from t he Czech Republic and on this recording go into more of a mixture of post rock and atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Manta" which was released by MetalGate Records.
Shamanistic style drumming along with some atmospheric synths start off the album while the programmed beats also take the music into more of a post rock direction along with some stringed instruments also being used at times as well as some whispered vocals and spoken word parts.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling while black metal screams and growls are also used at times along with the music also mixing the post rock and extreme styles together at times.
Some songs also bring in clean playing, acoustic guitars and shoegaze elements while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them as well as a couple of the tracks being instrumentals and as the album progresses the music gets more progressive and one of the songs also brings in a small amount of female vocals.
On this recording Postcards expands on their post metal style by adding in more atmospheric black metal elements, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are based upon the writings of H.P Lovecraft.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Postcards From Arkham and if you are a fan of post rock and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Kvlt of Dream" "Thoughts Like Silver Bullets" "Dunwich Shaman" and "Her Cosmic Song". 8 out of 10.
