Daemonheim are a duo from Germany that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a raw and atmospheric form of black metal with some folk music elements and this is a review of their 2018 album "Widerwelt" which will be released on April 27th by Naturnmacht Productions.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album before going into a faster direction which also uses a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams as well as the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while classical guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic fashion as well as most of the tracks being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses elements of folk music can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
On this recording Daemonheim keeps the atmospheric black metal style while keeping the folk elements not bringing in as much death metal influences and synths that where presented on the previous recording and also takes their music into more of a heavier and rawer direction, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and are a concept album based upon decay and death(and some heartache).
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Daemonheim and if you are a fan of raw and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Siechtum" "Kalte Rast" and "Utopias Fall". 8 out of 10.
