Ifernach are a solo project from Quebec, Canada that has recently had music reviewed in this zine and plays a very raw form of black metal with some elements of punk, thrash and ambient and this is a review of his 2018 ep "Gaqtaqaiaq" which was released by Nekart Productions.
Ambient style keyboards start off the ep while also being very epic at the same time along with some touches of classical music before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats as well as the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Elements of punk and thrash can also be heard in the music at times while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they also remain very true to an old school style as well as the music also bringing in a great amount of 90's influences and there is also another keyboard instrumental as the ep progresses before returning back to a heavier direction and tribal sounding drum beats and war chants can also be heard briefly.
Ifernach creates another recording that remains true to his raw style of black metal while also keeping the punk, thrash and ambient elements of his previous release, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are written in French and cover the Micmac Native American's tribe folklore, ancient mysticism, nature, conflict and betrayal themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ifernach and if you are a fan of raw black metal with elements of punk and thrash, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Extinction" "Naufrages" and "Metal sauvage gspesien", 8/5 out of 10.
