KRE^U are a band from Italy that plays a musical style that they describe as being 'Barbagian Black/Dark Metal' and this is a review of their self titled 2023 album which will be released in may by Masked Dead Records.
Spoken word parts and ritualistic soundscapes start off the album being introducing bass guitars into the music. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and clear singing can also be heard on a good amount of tracks tracks.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of blast beats and the album also brings in a lot of dark metal elements.
Keyboards can also be heard in certain s4ections of the album along with the music also adding in influences from both the old school and modern era's of the genre as well as the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in covers the outlaws and bandits who fought and died for independence during the Savoy period that happened between 1720 and 1861.
In my opinion KRE^U are a very great sounding mixture of black and dark metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Notturnu" and " A Palas Non Torred", 8 out of 10.
