Luminous Veil are a duo from Maryland that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very progressive and symphonic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2023 album "Morbid Rubicon" which will be released in June.
Symphonic style synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with a great portion of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
hen the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also has its progressive moments.
A lot of the music also has its roots in the 90's era as well as sounding very modern at the same time. The album also goes into more of an atmospheric direction at times along with one song also introducing clean playing onto the album, one track is also an instrumental. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the deepest anxiety's and angers of the modern age.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Luminous Veil and if you are a fan of atmospheric, progressive and symphonic black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gifted To A Gutted Pyre" "A History Gnawing At Today" and "This Luminous Veil". 8 out of 1 0.
