Domhain are a band from Ireland that plays a very atmospheric and progressive mixture of post black metal and blackgaze and this is a review of their 2023 album "Nimue" which will b e released on october 20. 2023 by These Hand Melt.
Clean playing starts off the album while clear male and female vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. The songs also add in a lot of post rock and shoegaze elements along with some cello's and piano's also being utilized at times and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
High pitched black metal screams are also a very huge part of the recording while the album also has its atmospheric and progressive moments. All of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the heavier riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling as well as keeping the main focus on a slower direction, spoken words are also added on the closing song.
Domhain plays a musical style that takes here atmospheric and progressive form of post black metal and mixes it with blackgaze to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover myths and remembrances.
In my opinion Domhain are a very great sounding atmospheric and progressive mixture of post black metal and blackgaze and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Silent Frequency". 8 out of 10.
