Cerulean are a band from San Diego, California that plays a dissonant mixture of black and death emtal and this is a review of their ep "Carrion Angel" which will b e released in 2024 by I, Voidhanger Records.
Flutes start off the ep before going into more of a heavier and dissonant direction while the faster sections of the songs also add in a lot of brutal blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Synths can also be heard at times along with some of the drum beats being programmed as well as the tracks also adding in a lot of death metal elements, clean playing and growls are also utilized on some of the songs.
Cerulean plays a musical style that takes dissonant black and death emtal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover pestilence, cosmicism and death rituals.
In my opinion Cerulean are a very great sounding dissonant mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sky Burial" and "Shroud of Locusts". 8 out of 10.
