First of all, thank you very much for the interview and the chance to present our band here. Mortem Agmen was originally a 2 man project founded by Marbas and Morax. After a short time Malphas and Mantus joined and became an integral part of the band. Since then we are the Grim Southern Alliance.
2.You have your first full length coming out in 2024, musically how does it differ from your previous demo?
The songwriting on the LP is more sophisticated and varied. The overall sound has been improved a lot. The professional recording with the studio "Noise Apocalypse" allowed us to raise the quality of the music to a new level. Nevertheless, we want to stay true to old school black metal!
3.Most of the band members also have experience playing in other bands, what is it that you bring into the music of 'Mortem Agmen' that you where not able to do with previous or current groups?
In the end, "only" Malphas at Mortem Agmen can look back on a decent and successful career, as he is the oldest in the pack. Marbas and Morax have also been playing their instruments for a while, but don't yet have much experience in band life or live performance. Mantus was "pulled out of the hat", so to speak. He had never held an instrument in his hands until April 2023. Mortem Agmen is characterised by an irrepressible will and family cohesion. Everyone has an important part to play.
4.A lot of your lyrics cover satanic and occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?
This topic has always fascinated us all, especially the mysticism behind it. The dark forces and the spirit are breathed into every song both musically and lyrically.
5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
Depression, darkness, the futility of humanity, paranormal existences (main focus). Humans are the last shit on this planet!!! As the lyrics are written by Marbas and Morax, their personal experiences naturally play a part, but the whole band marches and thinks as one.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Mortem Agmen'?
Mankind is travelling along different paths towards one destination, namely death. Humanity is a gigantic funeral procession (Mortem Agmen Latin for death procession). This is where the absolute aversion to humanity comes into the picture again.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The cover, as well as a drawing in the booklet, was drawn by Malphas. He is very talented and we are more than satisfied with the realization. The cover is intended to portray the dead walking towards damnation, which they believe to be salvation, because faith is only a false hope.
8.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?
As Mortem Agmen is still very young and the demo was released in April and the album was recorded in November, we have not yet been able to play any live gigs. However, two gigs have already been scheduled for 2024. Our album release party will take place in Bad Tölz on 23 February. Our friends AMYSTERY, TUNDRA from Italy and HELLGOAT from Sweden will also be there. On 19 October we will then be at the "Madness over Thuringia" in Erfurt with well-known bands such as TOTAL HATE, BAXAXAXA and HATS BARN.
9.The new album is going to be released on 'Nachzehrer Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Bjoern from Nachzehrer Records is a long-time friend of Malphas. They had already worked together for years in the past. But under a different label back then. Nachzehrer is also still a fairly young label, but has experience from over 20 years in the scene. Our demo, for example, was released in a mega bundle with a fantastic presentation. He only releases things from the underground, with beautiful packaging. He has also become part of the "family".
9.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
The reactions to the demo were very good. We were even able to sell some demos overseas. Of course we hope that the upcoming album will be the breakthrough for our music to reach even more black metal maniacs worldwide.
10.Are any of the band embers currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
No.
11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We want to stay true to our style, but also try to incorporate all the influences that affect us. New songs are already being written again. For now, however, the focus is on the release of the album on 23 February 2024 and the planned live performances. Malphas will also be out of action for a few weeks from March, as he is undergoing an surgery.
12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Mainly black and death metal bands from the 90s that bring the right spirit.
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thank you for the chance to present our small and still unknown band and we wish you much success with your online mag! The black flame must continue to burn!
