This is a review of a split album between United Kingdom's Atra mors and Torver called "Beyond The Shadows" which was released in 2018 by Death Prayer Records and we will start off the review with Atra Maors who return with their negative and misanthropic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with A very distorted sound before going into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction. All of the musical instruments on their side of the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the vocals are mostyl high pitched black metal screams.
A lot of their music is also very heavily influenced by the 90's second wave era along with the vocals also adding in some grim touches at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can b e heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style and they also bring in a couple of synth orientated instrumentals. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, death and occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Atra Mors and if you are a fan of negative and misanthropic black m3etal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Genocide Plague" and "Tyrant Of The Winds".
Next up is Torver a band that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school form of black metal with elements of crust punk..
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and r aw sound that also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era and the mid tempo sections also bring in elements of crust punk as well as all of the riffing being done on power chords. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and plague themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Torver and if you are a fan of old school black metal with elements of crust punk, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Manifestation Of The Perverse" and "The Masters Of Old".
In concession I feel this is a very great sounding split and i would recommend it to all fans of British black metal. 8 out of 10.
