Grymmstalt are a band from Chile that plays a very raw, old school and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Anthems Of Mournful Despondency" which will be released in December by Signal Rex.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the album while all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly grim yet depressive sounding black metal screams along with the music also going back to the mid 90's and early 2000's root of that genre and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording.
All of t he musical instruments on the album also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also has its repetitive moments which also blends in with the primitive nature of the recording. All of the riffing is done on power chords along with all of the songs also sticking to very slow, dark and melancholic direction and one song also adds in a brief use of clean playing.
Grymmstalt plays a musical style that is very slow, heavy and raw and goes back to the earlier days of the depressive black metal genre. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover pain, darkness and depression themes.
In my opinion Grymmstalt are a very great sounding raw, old school and depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wehmut" and "Schmerzan". 8 out of 10.
