Hermit are a solo project from Wisconsin that plays a very atmospheric and depressive form of black metal with some elements of ethereal doom metal and this is a review of his 2022 demo "Vow Of Solitude" which was released by Humanity's Plague Productions.
A very dark, heavy and lo-fi sound starts off the demo along with some atmospheric sounding synths. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs while the vocals are mostly grim yet depressive sounding black metal screams and a couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the music also has its ethereal moments. All of the musical instruments on demo also have a very powerful sound to them along with all of the songs also sticking to a slower musical direction and the tracks also show some influences from the early to mid 2000's era, melodic guitar leads can also be heard briefly as well as the closing song also being an instrumental.
Hermit plays a style of black metal that is very slow, atmospheric, depressive and ethereal sounding as well as adding in elements doom metal to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover nature themes.
In my opinion Hermit are a very great sounding atmospheric and depressive black metal solo project with some elements of ethereal doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nirch And Wolf Bone" and "Revenant Of Wintertide". 8 out of 10.
